Community question: How has technology changed your job?
Technology is the foundation of my job, how I communicate, stay connected with family, and handle business. Working in the IT field, I never imagined I’d have the opportunity to work remotely; it’s the ultimate flex.
The flexibility has been life-changing. Without the daily commute, I can plan my days more efficiently, reclaiming hours that would have been lost in transit. And when you really think about it, those hours add up; no matter the distance, time spent commuting compounds over the years.
Thanks to the continuous evolution of technology, I can start my mornings with a workout, cook my own meals, and dedicate time to learning something new every day. And yes, as expected, I’m one of those people wearing a dress shirt and shorts for video meetings.
You know what the best part is? I actually look forward to going into the office when needed. Instead of counting down to the weekend just for two uninterrupted days at home, I get to step out and be social. This setup works so much better.
Beyond work, technology has shaped my creative side too. If it weren’t for my daughter’s birth, I might have never discovered my passion for photography. That moment led me to an online photography forum I stumbled upon, and I was instantly hooked.
Seeing how powerful editing software can be. How it can transform an image, alter a mood, and shift perspectives. That technology completely changed the way I view the world of digital photography and storytelling. In addition, I get to keep my clients happy.
Gone are the days of carrying around a USB drive. With everything now cloud-based, all you need is an account. After dealing with multiple portable drives getting corrupted out of nowhere, switching to the cloud was a game changer. No more worrying about losing data as quickly as a failing hard drive.
Overall, technology has transformed my work life for the better, making it more flexible, efficient, and balanced.
