Well, well, well… I’m excited to introduce you to our newest family member—the cutest little guy ever.

Meet Boston!

Our daughter had been begging for a dog for what felt like forever. Right before our Hawaii vacation, we promised her a dog upon our return. The plan was simple: after we landed back on the mainland, we’d pick him up from the owner the next day. But things didn’t go as planned.

Heartbreak and a Life Lesson

The day we landed, the wife reached out to the owner to confirm the pickup, but we got no response. We tried again the next day. Still nothing. After two days of silence, we had to face the fact that we might not be getting the dog after all.

Our daughter, who had been so excited, was heartbroken. She had been counting down the days to finally becoming a pet owner, only for things to fall apart. It crushed her. She wouldn’t talk about it and eventually admitted she had a bad feeling from the start.

To comfort her, I explained that sometimes things just don’t work out as planned, and that’s okay. There are so many dogs out there looking for a loving home, and when the time is right, the perfect dog will come along.

The Surprise Arrival of Boston

And, as fate would have it, two weeks ago the wife’s friend mentioned her neighbor had a litter of puppies. We kept it a secret until we brought Boston home, and the look on our daughter’s face was priceless.

Boston napping 1 1

Boston is a full-bred German Shepherd, and today he turns eight weeks old. How did he get the name Boston? Honestly, I have no idea, my daughter said that’s his name, so we went with it—it suits him, and we love it! The kids adore playing with him, and he has such a calm nature. He doesn’t bark much and seems perfectly content spending the night in his crate. When he’s in a playful mood, he’s full of energy, but only for a few minutes before finding something to chew on and taking a nap.

Speaking of chewing… I think we’re going to have a sock and shoe thief on our hands! He’s been going after anything soft. I’m hoping it’s just a phase while he’s teething, but I’ll keep you posted on whether this turns into a bigger problem down the road.

Training Boston: A Work in Progress

As for training, Boston is already showing promise. He’s a quiet pup, and I’m optimistic that with consistent training, he’ll fit into our routine easily, even while I’m telecommuting and the kids are at school. He’s on a three-meal-a-day schedule, with food spaced out every four hours, just like his previous owner recommended. After each meal, we head outside for a little “business.”

Our only real challenge so far is potty training. Getting him to pee on the pads has been tricky, but we’re working on it. If you have any tips, I’m all ears! Otherwise, Boston is settling in well. He’s still sticking to one part of the house for now, but when it comes to the kids, he’s happy to play with or snuggle up to anyone willing to give him attention.

Stay tuned for more updates as we watch Boston grow and become a full-fledged member of the family!
